Niagara Falls, one of the most famous waterfall systems in the world, is made up of three falls: Horseshoe, American, and Bridal Veil Falls. While the latter two fall under U.S. jurisdiction, they pale in comparison to Canada’s Horseshoe Falls, the largest and most spectacular of the three. This geographic advantage is a major reason why Niagara Falls, Ontario, attracts far more tourists than its New York counterpart.

The appeal is simple—the bigger the waterfall, the more dramatic the experience. Horseshoe Falls is brighter, louder, and more visually impressive, making it the primary draw for visitors. As a result, the American side often feels underwhelming in comparison, leaving many tourists with the sense that they’re missing out on the better view.
